Had to use a laptop while in Germany and it had netready installed. I was told to use netready sparingly, but when there was no connectivity and it was necessary to attend webex meetings.
The program shows up at the bottom-right where there are many other icons, but it is hard to find.
The cost to use for one hour was almost 2x more than another vendor.
The program uses a lot of memory - about 50MB when it is idle and not being displayed. The user-interface is interesting looking, but it is very hard to tell what parts are for feedback and what parts are actual links.
When you try to use netready you have to create an account and add money. The problem is that the amounts to add money are not the same as the hourly, daily, or monthy rates, so you end up adding more money than you will use for one session. When you add money the application seems to slow way down and take a long time to refresh the screen. Since you are putting in credit card info it made me very nervous.
Once you pay for your connection it takes a while before you can use it. I don't know why this is, and I don't know if the time you are waiting is part of the time you paid for or not.
When you can finally connect the application causes network utilization to go up to nearly 50%, and this is before the browser was opened and we tried anything over the network.
Also when you connect it appears that the program sets a number of network routes. Our network admin found this and stated it was a bad way to do things. As a result there are a lot of websites that you cannot get to. We only used netready with websites.
The connection seems to drop all the time. since it uses the mobile phone network it is unclear what the cause is. But I was sitting in one place and not moving and the connection never stayed up more than 15 minutes.
The network admin found some log information and told us that the application performs a silent update from time to time. He and I do not like programs that update without telling me about it, and this is why we stopped using netready after 3 days.
If I am paying for a connection and there is a silent update, then part of the data being used is from the update and I am not able to use all I pay for.
There is no way to exit the application. When you click on the X to close it does not close it just disappears.
I am leaving this review because I just saw netready on the Dell website and it appears to be on laptops here in the US.
netready is made by a company called Macheen and is not made by Dell.
Being able to link to my phone by cable at work and at home is the only reason I buy Sony Ericcson phones, otherwise I would buy an iPhone.
The latest version is called PC companion and its rubbish on my windows XP laptop, no way will I upgrade on my work PC and home PC.
On the latest version, the contacts do not work, Media does not work, when replying the screen goes white so you cannot read the text you are replying to.
This upgrade to the software is simply rubbish.
How can Sony make such a mess of such a critical piece of software.
Would love to know how to re-instate version 6 of the old software
I suggest you fix whatever is causing your site to get a danger rating from WOT, As consumers we do not want spyware, malware, viruses or our privacy disregarded.
You know what it is just great but i do not get much time to go on that

lap top.
